Ginger Hibachi Kitchen, already well established with four Columbus area locations, has opened a stylistically different version of the chain here in Athens.
The chain has formerly been more fine dining cuisine. The Athens restaurant will attempt to be a variation of the previous establishments, centered more on being a customer friendly, “fast-casual” and fun environment with affordable prices and quick, efficient service. The workers are currently milling about the restaurant during hours, seeking customer feedback from things ranging from freshness of the ingredients to music selection.
The restaurant will offer namely Japanese dishes, for example; sushi and traditional Japanese rolls. Customers can choose their toppings in a manner similar to what a consumer might see at Chipotle or Subway. The nearly 5,700 square foot dining facility has plenty of space for occupancy and features an upper and lower level. Their lower floor will also soon offer self-serve frozen yogurt with a T.V. available in the downstairs area.
After training employees in late March, Hibachi Ginger Kitchen opened up for business on Monday, March 25, with the business now in the process of what worker T.J. Wellman called “forecasting.”
“We’re trying to find out our flow, so we’re going through a lot of product,” Wellman said. “I mean, we ask that they [the customers] bear with us, if there’s something that’s not fresh, bring it to our attention and we’ll obviously make it right, so I’d say that’s the main thing.”
Wellman said that in his eyes there was a slightly smaller crowd than expected, attributing this to the “sleepy heads” back from Easter break not being back in the swing of things quite yet, and expects things to pick up soon.
Wellman emphasized the team atmosphere, suggesting that there were no solidified positions or hierarchy within the Athens branch of the restaurant. He also mentioned that work opportunities could grow for area residents and that the company is always looking for workers to help out,
The company plans on doing a grand-opening ceremony when the frozen-yogurt machines are up and ready to go.
Wellman spoke to the company’s ideology that they want to make all customers feel like “Gingers’ customers” and said “It’s Hibachi Kitchen … Right there is your refrigerator so to speak and your stove.”
